Nia Coffey's Clutch Three Secures Lynx' 88-84 Victory Over Mercury
PHOENIX (AP) — Natasha Howard led the way with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Nia Coffey hit a pivotal wide-open three-pointer with 25.6 seconds remaining to secure an 88-84 triumph for the Minnesota Lynx over the Phoenix Mercury.
Coffey's decisive shot followed a strong drive and pass from rookie Olivia Miles, who also grabbed a crucial rebound and nailed one of two free throws with 13.2 seconds left to cement the win.
For the Lynx, Coffey tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds. Miles contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. Kayla McBride added 14 points, and Courtney Williams and Emma Cechova each delivered 11.
On the other side, Kahleah Copper posted 30 points for Phoenix, and Alyssa Thomas chipped in 10 points and eight assists. The Mercury's DeWanna Bonner scored 16.
The Lynx overcame an early deficit, with Copper's 13 points in the first half matched by Bonner's 12 to set up a comfortable lead. Phoenix struggled from beyond the arc after halftime, converting just two of their 11 attempts.
Minnesota will be without Napheesa Collier, sidelined since March due to ankle surgery, while Copper faces a lengthy recovery period after additional surgery earlier this year.
