BOSTON (AP) — Kyle Schwarber ties Philadelphia’s record with his 17th homer, leading the Phillies to a 2-1 win over Boston and marking Mattingly’s 900th victory as skipper.
Philadelphia (20-22) has won three straight and six of eight since Mattingly replaced Ron Thomson on April 28.
Zach Wheeler (2-0) allowed one run and six hits over 7 1/3 innings, striking out four.
Schwarber’s six homers in five games put him alongside Bobby Abreu, Dick Allen, Odvel Herrera, Rhys Hoskins, Mike Schmidt, Trea Turner and Chase Utley as Philly hitters going deep in consecutive contests.
Mattingly joins Terry Francona, A.J. Hinch, Dave Roberts, Kevin Cash and Craig Counsell as managers reaching 900 wins.
Dominican Jhoan Durán added a hit and walk in the ninth, securing his sixth save.
