DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Fast bowler Nahid Rana claimed a historic five-for as Bangladesh secured a decisive 104-run victory in their first Test match against Pakistan on Tuesday.
Chasing a daunting target of 268, Pakistan were restricted to 163 all out, with Rana delivering a career-defining performance that included a career-best 5-40 in a dominant display of pace bowling.
After a fiery opening spell, Shanto declared early to accelerate the chase, setting the stage for a rapid collapse. Rana’s relentless attack dismantled Pakistan’s batting order, while Taskin Ahmed added crucial wickets to ensure a commanding lead.
"They were struggling against Nahid," said Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. "His consistency gave us the confidence to push for this result." Taskin’s 2-40 and the twin partnerships of Fazal and Taskin kept Bangladesh in control throughout.
Shanto’s 87-run knock anchored the innings, and the declaration at 240-9 paved the way for a comfortable win. Pakistan’s resilience faltered under Rana’s precision, sealing Bangladesh’s place at the top of the Test standings.
