ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers right fielder Brandon Nimmo exited Tuesday night's contest versus the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a sprained left ankle injury.
While attempting an infield single, Nimmo's foot made contact with first baseman Ildemaro Vargas' shoe, prompting a limp that led to his substitution with pinch-runner Sam Haggerty. Despite the setback, Nimmo remained in the game momentarily before medical evaluation confirmed the ankle issue.
Manager Skip Schumaker emphasized Nimmo's resilience, noting the player's determination to recover quickly despite the injury. The team secured a 7-4 victory, with Nimmo contributing significantly by going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs.
"You'll talk to him, and he'll try to tell you he's going to play tomorrow," Schumaker remarked, highlighting Nimmo's characteristic optimism amid physical challenges. The Rangers maintained a 7-1 lead at the time of the injury, demonstrating their strong offensive performance throughout the game.
Nimmo continues to be a key offensive player for the Rangers this season, maintaining a .276 batting average with four home runs and twelve RBIs. His consistent performance underscores his value to the team's success.
