BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Rising star Gout Gout has already etched his name into athletics history by breaking the U20 100m record, setting the stage for an even greater challenge as he prepares to represent Australia at the World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
"I'm thrilled about competing on the global stage," Gout shared in a recent press release. "This stadium has incredible energy, and I'm ready to give everything to bring pride to my country."
Competing in both the 200m and 4x400m relays, Gout aims to surpass his own national record while showcasing his versatility. His 19.67-second 200m dash—just 0.02 seconds shy of Erriyon Knighton's world mark—demonstrates his potential to dominate internationally.
Originally from Queensland with South Sudanese heritage, Gout has bypassed traditional Commonwealth Games participation to focus on World Junior success, eyeing an Olympic debut by 2028. Analysts predict his trajectory could position him as Brisbane's Olympic icon by 2032.
